Is your child starting nursery or pre-school soon? The first day can be a big milestone - for both you and your little one. While it’s natural to feel a bit anxious, a little preparation can make all the difference.

Here are three tips to help ease the transition:

1. Prepare in advance - Before the big day, talk to your child about what to expect. Discuss the routine, including drop-off and pick-up times, so they know what’s coming next. You can also visit the nursery or pre-school beforehand to help them get familiar with the setting. Knowing where the toys, bathrooms, and play areas are can ease their nerves. The more your child understands what to expect, the more comfortable they’ll feel.

2. Book some settling-in sessions - Take advantage of these sessions, even if it means attending a few extra times. This gradual introduction gives your child a chance to explore, meet the teachers, and interact with other children in a low-pressure setting. It helps build confidence and reduces anxiety on the first day.

3. Stay calm and positive - Children are sensitive to their parents’ emotions, so it’s important to stay calm and positive, even if you're feeling a little nervous. Reassure your child that nursery is a safe, fun place to learn and make new friends. If you act confidently and excited about the experience, your child will be more likely to mirror that attitude. A positive mindset can make all the difference in their first day!

We hope these tips help ease the transition and make your child’s first day a success!
